Today is Tuesday, September 17, 2019 Day 1 (A) of the 6 Day Cycle

attention iconattention iconWeb Site Migration Underway ~~ This is the old KCSD site

Beginning March 8, the District is migrating to a new web site.  The new website should be fully available at www.kcsd.k12.pa.us (or www.kcsd.us) by Saturday morning (March 9).  Content on this site will remain in archive form only; this site is no longer being actively updated.  Content from here will be moved to the new site, but it will take some time; once content has been moved, it may disappear from this old site to avoid confusion.
Thank you for your patience during this process.

What is it?                                KCSD On-Line Learning is our school district’s cyber program.

Who is eligible to join?              All KCSD students are eligible to join our On-Line Learning program.

Who do I contact?                     It is best to start with your school guidance counselor. They will review your grades and attendance, and you can discuss what is prompting you to ask about on-line learning. At this point, your guidance counselor may refer you to Mrs. Murty, On-Line Learning Principal.

How is On-Line Learning structured?

Our OLL classes operate through a variety of programs that may include: Compass Odyssey, Schoology, enVision Math, and Benchmark Literacy on-line platforms. We use a series of lessons taught through assigned readings, videos, quizzes, tests, and activities. In addition, we use Zoom, an educational video conferencing tool. Students can take classes at home or at school using the on-line platforms. We can work with individual students and families to create a schedule that meets their needs. Some students stay on-site all day, while other students come on-site for certain classes and work from home for the rest of the day. One of the most important aspects of home On-Line Learning is having someone at home who can work with the student and be sure the student is completing work daily. Students must complete an hour of productive work each school day; however, it will take longer than that to complete the work for each on-line learning class you take.

What do I need to transfer to KCSD On-Line Learning?

The first thing you will need is internet in your home. We will ask for proof of an active internet connection (a current bill). The district will provide a laptop to students that can be used for OLL classes if available. The laptop will need to be returned at the end of the school year at the administration office.

Why can’t I just say I want On-Line classes and be done with the request?

On-Line Learning is all about meeting the individual needs of each student. You will stay in close contact with your teachers and with Mrs. Murty. You start On-Line Learning by meeting with your guidance counselor or with Mrs. Murty. We will provide you with an overview of the programs and make sure your computer can access the websites. The most successful students start on-site for several days to learn the process. If students choose home OLL, then they will meet regularly with OLL staff to monitor progress. Lack of progress means that a student will be required to come back on site to work to get caught up, but if progress isn’t made, students will need to transfer back into regular classes.

If you want to ask questions before you decide what to do, who can you contact?
