Why do we see some of the menu choices that we do? KCSD follows USDA's National School Breakfast and National School Lunch guidelines. For example, we serve only fat free or 1% milk.
Did you know that dark green and red/orange vegetables must be served a certain amount of times per week?
On an average, we serve 1,550 breakfasts and 2,300 lunches daily.
Homemade Apple Pie Smoothie
1/2 cup lowfat vanilla yogurt
2 oz. chilled unsweetened apple juice
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
A pinch of nutmeg and allspice
1 tsp. brown sugar
2 oz. unsweetened chilled applesauce
Combine yogurt, apple juice, spices and brown sugar in bowl. Stir with whisk until well mixed. Add applesauce, stirring until smooth.
Portion into serving cup. Serve chilled.
May refrigerate overnight.
Tip: May substitute apple pie spice for cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
